When is it too late to fire your attorney?
As a client, you are under no obligation to have an attorney represent you. You have the right to change your attorney anytime during your family lawsuit – before settlement or at any other time. However, your attorney may still have a claim on their legal fee for all work done in your case.
There are several reasons one would want to change their legal representation. But firing your counsel at the wrong time in your case can negatively affect its outcome. The best way is to have a good working relationship with your attorney.
Firing your Attorney Late Can Prove Costly
Firing your attorney if your case is close to a settlement or a verdict can end up costing you much more than the legal fee. The attorney can claim his full amount in this case, and you’ll risk your chances of obtaining a favorable result.
Hiring another attorney could also jeopardize your settlement if they have a different viewpoint. Thus, firing your attorney late in your case may not be in your best interests.
However, hiring another attorney early on in your case will not only reduce your financial burden but also maximize your chances of full compensation.
